An optional service we provide participating schools is research, whose aim is to assess improvements in classroom behavior and students' ethical understanding. We have two measures to collect data, both of which are done anonymously (without the use of names).

1.  Teachers give the students a Pre-test in the Fall and a Post-test in the Spring where students answer a series of True/False questions. We collect the surveys from the school and analyze the data, which we use to generate a report that we then provide to the school that details students' answers to each question with a brief summary regarding each character trait.

2.  As a complement to the student assessments, the teacher fills out a questionnaire regarding each student's classroom behavior, with a Pre-test in the Fall and a Post test in the spring.

National Studies

Our National Office has conducted various studies throughout the Nation. The Life's Lessons for Character building - an Independent Validation Study, showed an increase of attendance by 1.5 days, and improvements in classroom behavior.

In 2006 Marvin W.Berkowitz, Ph.D.and Melinda C. Bier, Ph.D. conducted a study, What Works in Character Education, to compare Social and Emotional Learning programs. Learning For Life showed strong evidence for beneficial changes in personal morality, communicative competency, relationships, school behavior, self-concept, and problem solving skills.
